As of March 18, 2020, Huron Perth Public Health buildings are now closed to the public so that we can focus our efforts on the COVID-19 response in our community.

This afternoon, the Ontario Ministry of Health strengthened its recommendations to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the province. The province is strongly recommending these additional closures across Ontario:

  • Recreational programs and libraries
  • Churches and other faith settings
  • Daycares
  • Private schools
  • All bars and restaurants - unless restaurants can do take-out and delivery.

Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health, is confirming the first case of COVID-19 in the Huron-Perth region. The 64-year-old male who resides in St. Marys presented to the emergency department at St. Marys Memorial Hospital on the evening of March 12 with symptoms unrelated to COVID-19. January 19 to 25 is National Non-Smoking Week and Huron Perth Public Health is highlighting ways local residents can get support to quit smoking for good.

Quit Smoking Support

“Quitting smoking can be hard, but it is possible” says Jaelyn Kloepfer, Public Health Promoter. “Support is available, and you are not alone in your journey to quit smoking.” Huron Perth Public Health offers:

  • one-on-one counselling support
  • free nicotine replacement therapy when eligible, and
  • connections to community resources.
