2020 Food and Nutrition Programs and Services in Perth County Released

The Perth County Food Literacy Group in partnership with Huron Perth Public Health is excited to release the 2020 edition of the Food and Nutrition Programs and Services in Perth County. The purpose of this inventory is to highlight all of the food literacy programs and services available to Perth County residents.

Food literacy is knowing about food, having food skills, feeling confident when choosing, preparing, and eating food, and making healthy food decisions most of the time. “Food literacy is also understanding how our food choices are impacted by the food system and our food environment, living situation and culture and beliefs,” explains Shannon Edmonstone, Public Health Nutritionist. “Better food literacy can help everyone in our communities enjoy better health.”

The inventory of Food and Nutrition Programs and Services in Perth County provides information on:

  • Food and Nutrition Education Programs
  • Food Access Programs
  • Community Gardens and Gardening Clubs
  • Kitchens Available for Rent
  • Access to Registered Dietitians and Services/Programs They Provide
  • Information Phone Lines
  • Commodity Groups
  • Miscellaneous Programs and Services

The Perth County Food Literacy Group is comprised of community agencies and residents who are interested in promoting food literacy in Perth County. The purpose of the group is to work in partnership to explore and identify new food literacy opportunities and provide education and support for food literacy in the community.
