COVID-19 Vaccine Update

  • Vaccinations at the Western Fair District Agriplex will cease for at least two weeks, due to a delay in the delivery of the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine to Canada.
  • Given the limited vaccine supply, and in keeping with direction from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, effective immediately, all second doses of vaccine for those who have received their first dose will be rescheduled to 42 days from the date they received their initial dose.
    • Long-term care and retirement home staff who received their first vaccine dose at the Agriplex will be contacted to reschedule their second dose.
    • In Huron-Perth, we are on track to complete all first doses for residents in long-term care and high-risk retirement homes by January 27.  We are prepared to provide the second dose at day 21 – 27 after the first dose, pending further delivery of vaccine. We will extend second doses up to 42 days if required.
    • In keeping with the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), extending the second dose is expected to give similar high protection as a second dose given at Day 21 – 28.

Extension of remote learning

  • Yesterday Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education announced that students in seven health unit regions would be permitted to resume in-person learning on January 25.  Huron-Perth is not among them, therefore all public and private schools must continue with remote learning at this time.
