First Positive COVID-19 in Listowel

Huron Perth Public Health has been notified of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a Listowel area resident. The female in her 70s has been hospitalized at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Huron Perth Public Health is working to follow up with close contacts of the confirmed case.

President and CEO of Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance, Karl Ellis, says, “We have been preparing for several weeks in anticipation of COVID-19 cases.   We will continue to take all precautions to keep our team, our patients and community safe.”

Huron Perth Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says, “We need to continue, as a community, to work together and follow public health measures so we can flatten the curve of this disease. I continue to urge residents to stay home unless necessary and reduce their interactions with other people.”

Current Cases in Huron Perth

As of April 12, there are 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Huron and Perth. There have been two deaths, one in St. Marys and one long-term care resident at Greenwood Court in Stratford. Currently, two long-term care homes have confirmed cases of COVID-19: Hillside Manor (1 case) and Greenwood Court (11 cases in residents and staff total). Huron Perth Public Health continues to work closely with the long-term care homes to contain the outbreak and protect the residents and staff.

Weekend Hours for Huron Perth Public Health

Public Health work continues over the weekend, with public health staff following up on any new cases of COVID-19, helping to manage outbreaks in long-term care homes, and continuing surveillance of ongoing cases and contacts. The website with confirmed case numbers will be updated daily over the weekend. As well, the Health Line phone intake line will be open daily from Friday, April 10 to Monday, April 13 from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
