Huron Perth, ON – Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) thanks the hundreds of volunteers who have been helping at HPPH COVID-19 community vaccination clinics since March. “We have received so much positive feedback about how efficient, friendly and welcoming the clinics are,” says Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth.  “Volunteers play a vital role in making vaccination appointments a positive experience from beginning to end, and we could not run our clinics without them.”

HPPH especially wants to recognize local Rotary Clubs for taking on the huge task of coordinating volunteers. "Since the pandemic Rotarians have been challenged to find ways to serve our community,” says Katherine Hahn, Rotary Club of Stratford president. “Many of our fundraising efforts have been cut short. When our District Governor shared that Rotary Clubs elsewhere in Ontario were helping at vaccination clinics, and suggested local Clubs reach out to their health units to offer assistance, my immediate thought was that of course we can do that! Our membership has been starving for opportunities to be of service in our community."

After connecting with the HPPH vaccine team earlier this year, and confirming that Rotarians were indeed interested in volunteering, things were set in motion.  Since that time, hundreds of volunteers, Rotarians and community-minded citizens have stepped up to lend a hand to the health care professionals who administer vaccinations nearly every day. “It has been a wonderful collaboration of all of the Rotary Clubs in the area, (Rotary Club of Stratford, Festival City Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Mitchell and the Rotary Club of Goderich) to manage the volunteers and fill the shifts,” reports Hahn.

Huron Perth residents who are interested in volunteering at COVID-19 vaccination clinics should visit the Rotary Club’s website at https://rotarystratford.com/event/vaccination-clinic-volunteers/.
