Designated Officers Program

The Designated Officers Program helps protect emergency responders from infections and diseases that they may be exposed to in the line of duty. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • HIV
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C

Report exposure

If an Emergency Service Worker (ESW) is exposed to a communicable disease, you need to complete the Designated Officer Incident Assessment Form. Contact us  if you have any questions about this process.

Our roles and responsibilities

We will:

  • Provide consultation
  • Review the information you provide
  • Provide you with recommendations for seeking medical attention and counselling
  • Monitor all incident reports of communicable diseases and notify Emergency Service Workers

We will not:

  • Gather information from the ESW directly (all information is reported by the Designated Officer)
  • Provide treatment advice
  • Provide diagnosis
