Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi in North America. It is spread through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks and the western blacklegged ticks.

Accurate diagnosis and immediate treatment are key factors to the successful management of Lyme disease. Check out the Health Quality Ontario Clinical Guidance for more information about management and investigation of Lyme disease.

Public Health Ontario can provide serological testing when required.
