Prenatal Education

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) provides prenatal education classes to help you prepare for your baby. Classes are available in-person or online. Find a class that fits your schedule.

Huron County prenatal classes

Our in-person prenatal education program is designed for expectant parents in the second and third trimester of pregnancy. Sessions focus on:

  • labour and birth
  • postpartum adjustment
  • newborn care
  • comfort tips
  • breastfeeding

Registration

To register for prenatal classes in Huron County, call 1-888-221-2133. We recommend that you register early! You can register as soon as you find out that you are pregnant.

Perth County prenatal classes

Our in-person prenatal education program is ideal for expectant parents in the last half of pregnancy and is divided into 2 parts. Please call 1-888-221-2133 x 3224 or email us for our class dates and times.

Registration:

Part 1

We offer part 1 of our prenatal education as a 1-day intensive workshop or spread out 1 night per week for 3 weeks. This free class series includes the following topics:

  • key steps to a positive childbirth experience
  • techniques for comfort and coping with labour pain
  • the partner's role during labour
  • preparing for parenting
  • bringing home your baby
  • breastfeeding basics

Part 2

Part 2 of our prenatal education program costs $30 and is a 4-hour class offered at the Stratford General Hospital. This class includes the following topics:

  • preparing for labour
  • giving birth at the hospital
  • pain medication options for labour
  • recovering from childbirth
  • the first few days with your newborn

Online prenatal classes

If you can't make it to our in-person prenatal classes, you can still learn this information through our online prenatal education.

Register for online prenatal classes

Once you register, we will send you the log-in information to access the material. The online prenatal program includes information to help you prepare for labour and the first few days with your baby.
