Birth Control

Huron Perth Public Health's Sexual Health Clinics provide information about birth control methods and sell a variety of birth control options at affordable prices.

Birth control options

There are many effective and safe options for sexually active people who do not want to have a pregnancy. Get all the information you need before you decide which method is right for you. You will need a medical prescription in order to obtain certain forms of birth control.

The Huron Perth Public Health sexual health clinics provide emergency contraception if you have had unprotected sex in the last five days.

Emergency Contraception Pills (ECP), also known as “the morning after pill,” help to prevent pregnancy by using hormones to prevent or delay the release of an egg. Emergency contraception can be used up to five days after unprotected sexual intercourse, but is most effective if used immediately after unprotected sexual intercourse. No emergency contraceptive protects against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

You can access safe, legal abortion services during the first and second trimester of a pregnancy in Ontario. Your Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) will cover the cost of an abortion at most clinics. You will need your Ontario Health Card number to use your OHIP coverage.

First trimester (up to 14 weeks)

First and second trimester (up to 22 weeks)
