Public Health Nurse - Temporary Full-time | Posting 14-2020

We currently have an opening for a temporary, full-time PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE in the Community and Family Health Department.  This contract will end on or before December 1, 2021. This position is based out of the Stratford office.

Summary

The Public Health Nurse blends knowledge and skills from nursing and public health sciences to promote and preserve the health of the community.  Under the direction of management, the Public Health Nurse participates in needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of assigned public health programs and services.

Education

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and eligible to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Skills

Demonstrated skills in:

  • accordance to the Nursing Standards (outlined by the College of Nurses)
  • programs and services outlined by the Ontario Public Health Standards
  • clinical nursing practices such as counselling and vaccination
  • assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • health promotion and community development
  • oral and written communication
  • leadership, facilitation and team building
  • current experience in public health nursing preferred
  • computer skills an asset

Conditions

  • terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the ONA Collective Agreement
  • obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screen
  • immunizations in accordance with Board Policy including annual influenza immunization unless medically contra indicated
  • valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a safe and well maintained vehicle suitable for carrying out duties on behalf of employer

Hours

  • Usually 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Wage

  • $34.94 - $47.22 per hour

Immigrant Advocate (Low German Speaking) - Temporary Full-time | Posting 09-2020

We currently have an opening for a temporary full-time IMMIGRANT ADVOCATE in the Community and Family Health Department beginning immediately and ending September 2021. This position is based out of the Stratford office.

Summary:

The Immigrant Advocate works as a member of a team of public health staff to deliver programs and services primarily to Low German speaking young families in Huron and Perth County. The Immigrant Advocate is aware of the unique needs of Low German speaking families and works with them in a variety of settings to provide translation/interpretation services and support, to build on their strengths, to link to relevant community programs and services, develop their parenting skills, and promote healthy child development.

Education:          

  • high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills:

  • experience working with parents and children as well as an interest in helping children and families
  • good written and verbal communication skills including a demonstrated ability to read and write English
  • ability to speak and translate in Low German
  • ability to plan, organize and manage time effectively
  • understanding of unique cultural needs of Low German speaking immigrants
  • ability to learn and use new software applications is an asset
  • ability to work independently as well as within a team

  • obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screen
  • immunizations in accordance with Board Policy including annual influenza immunization unless medically contraindicated
