Types of volunteer opportunities

Program support, clerical volunteer

In this role, you will help with general administrative tasks, such as assembling information packages, labelling, and more.

This is a good fit for individuals with weekday availability and students seeking community service hours.

Let's Get Cookin' volunteers

Let’s Get Cookin’ is a 7-session school-based program led by volunteers to teach kids basic, hands-on cooking skills. Volunteers lead small groups of students to prepare and taste recipes. Training and supplies are provided.

Community Food Advisors

Community Food Advisors are trained volunteers who work with our staff and community partners to promote healthy eating and food safety to consumers in Huron and Perth counties.

Teen Esteem and Elements Mentors

Team Esteem and Elements mentors are short-term, school-based volunteer placements to support Grade 5 and 6 students in Perth County. Teen Esteem program is for girls and Elements is for boys.

In this role, you will:

  • Donate your time one lunch hour a week for a six week session
  • Facilitate discussion and lead students in interactive games and activities

Session topics include self-esteem, communication, healthy relationships, stress management, social media and goal setting. Huron Perth Public Health provides orientation and training and a public health nurse is present at every session.

Kindergarten Registration Volunteer

Support our child health team with Calling All Three Year Olds Kindergarten Registration during the month of November.

Vision Screener

Support local Lions Clubs in providing vision screening to kindergarten students in October and November.

Use vision screening tools and training for the purposes of identifying risk factors.
