Falls prevention

Anyone can fall, but as you get older, the risk increases. At Huron Perth Public Health, we recommend that seniors report all falls to their healthcare provider.

Concussions

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. Concussions can cause stretching and damage to cells, which affects how the brain functions.

If you, your child, or someone you know, is experiencing symptoms of a concussion, you should:

  • Stop any activity immediately
  • Visit a healthcare professional as soon as possible
  • Stay with family or friends and avoid being alone
