Blue-green algae found in Wildwood Reservoir

Huron Perth Public Health and Southwestern Public Health are advising people that a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in Wildwood Reservoir. The reservoir is located at Wildwood Conservation Area, near St. Marys. Blue-green algae can produce toxins that may be harmful to the health of humans and animals when there is direct contact with or consumption of the water. Algal blooms most commonly occur during the warmer weather of late summer and early fall.

Huron Perth, ON – Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a heat warning for Huron Perth.

A hot and humid airmass is expected through Wednesday. As the week progresses, daytime highs are expected to be 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, with the likely hottest day on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Humidex values and daytime highs will be very atypical of early September.

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito bites following confirmation that mosquitoes collected from a trap in St. Marys tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). This is the first WNV positive mosquito finding of the season for Huron and Perth counties.

Huron Perth – Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is looking for a dog involved in a biting incident in Stratford.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 24, 2023 between 3 and 4 p.m. at the back entrance of the Stratford Courthouse at 1 Huron Street, Stratford.

The dog involved in the biting incident is described as a mixed breed, with short hair, 60-70 pounds, with a black body, with grey on the face, tan legs and a white triangle on the forehead above the eyes.
