First confirmed case of flu in Huron Perth

Huron Perth, ON - Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) has received confirmation of the first case of influenza (flu) in a resident. The resident is under the age of 5. This lab-confirmed result means that flu is circulating in Huron Perth.

HPPH launches October vaccine clinics for high-risk individuals

Huron Perth, ON – HPPH has launched four October clinics offering COVID and influenza vaccinations to high-risk populations. The COVID vaccine offered will be the recently approved vaccine for protection against the COVID XBB variant.

These HPPH clinics are open to any of the following individuals, as long as it has been six months since a person’s last vaccine dose or confirmed COVID infection:

Blue-green algae found in Wildwood Reservoir

Huron Perth Public Health and Southwestern Public Health are advising people that a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in Wildwood Reservoir. The reservoir is located at Wildwood Conservation Area, near St. Marys. Blue-green algae can produce toxins that may be harmful to the health of humans and animals when there is direct contact with or consumption of the water. Algal blooms most commonly occur during the warmer weather of late summer and early fall.

Huron Perth, ON – Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a heat warning for Huron Perth.

A hot and humid airmass is expected through Wednesday. As the week progresses, daytime highs are expected to be 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, with the likely hottest day on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Humidex values and daytime highs will be very atypical of early September.
